Summary
Long before the name Bigfoot became part of American folklore, the forests of South Carolina's Upstate were already home to stories of towering, humanlike figures moving silently through the wilderness.
Cherokee traditions spoke of powerful beings inhabiting the high ridges. Frontier settlers described encounters with a mysterious Wild Man. By the twentieth century, eyewitnesses across Oconee County, Lake Jocassee, and the Blue Ridge foothills were reporting remarkably similar encounters.
